ICAI objects to TOI & Umar Ujala on stating sacked chairman of J&K Bank as Chartered Accountant

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has registered a strong objection with the Times of India and Umar Ujala newspapers on the news item published on 10th June 2019

Both the newspapers have stated the sacked chairman-cum-managing director of the J&K Bank namely “Parvez Ahmad Nengroo” as a “chartered accountant” who had become Chairman from CA in just 15 years.

The ICAI being the Statutory Regulator of the profession of Chartered Accountancy has written a letter to the editors of both the newspapers, according to which on verification with the Register of members maintained, the said Parvez Ahmad Nengroo was not found to be a Chartered Accountant.

The said letter has called it unfortunate that  without verifying the facts from the Institute, these reputed National newspapers has published such adverse story which has caused  immense damage to the credentials of CA profession.

The ICAI has demanded that a suitable clarification be published prominently in those newspaper immediately stating the facts so as to clear the  doubts  in  the minds of readers and all stakeholders.

The ICAI has also cautioned the newspapers It is requested that in future, if any such news item appears wherein there is an alleged involvement of Chartered Accountant, the matter may be referred to !CAl for cross verify ri1g the credentials from its records, before publishing the same.
