ICAI to conduct its Disciplinary Proceedings through e-hearings as a pilot project

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is all set to conduct its Disciplinary Proceedings through e-hearings for expeditious disposal of Disciplinary cases.

The ICAI, for the first time, have fixed to conduct e-hearing of disciplinary proceedings on February 9, 2019 through Video-conferencing in terms/compliance of the recent amendments made to the Chartered Accountants (Procedure of Investigations of Professional and Other Misconduct and Conduct of Cases) Rules, 2007.

The e-hearings would inter alia cut down the associated travel time and costs to the parties involved

As per Announcement by the ICAI, the Council of the Institute had approved the proposal for conducting e-hearings of Disciplinary proceedings in May, 2018.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) had approved and notified the proposed amendments on October 29, 2018.

The ICAI as a pilot project has decided to commence e proceedings, initially from its five regional headquarters located at New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Kanpur which would be gradually extended to other locations
