Deadline for linking of Aadhaar number with bank and mobile extended
It is learnt that the Constitution bench of the Supreme Court have extended the deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar number with bank accounts and mobile numbers till the disposal of petitions challenging the Constitutional validity of Aadhaar.
It was contended that the interim order passed by the Supreme Court on 15.12.2017 should be extended, and also it should cover the arena relating to the grant of Passports.
When asked, Attorney General for India agered that the Court may extend the interim order subject to the condition that benefits, subsidies and services covered under Section 7 of the The Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 should remain undisturbed.
Accordingly, the Hon’ble Supreme Court, accepted the submission made by the Attorney General and subject to that, directed that the interim order passed on 15.12.2017 shall stand extended till the matter is finally heard and the judgment is pronounced. The directions issued shall apply as stated in paragraphs 11 to 13 in the said order which covers:
1. The last date for the completion of the process of Aadhaar linking of new bank accounts.
2. The last date for the completion of the E-KYC process in respect of mobile phone subscribers
3. The last date for Aadhar linkage to to the schemes of the Ministries/Departments of the Union government and all state governments
The deadline was to expire on 31st March, 2018.
