CBDT has issued circular no. 09/2021 dated 20th May 2021 to provide relief to taxpayers by extending due dates for filing ITRs and other returns in view of the severe Covid-19 pandemic

Earlier, the CBDT vide circular no. 05/2021 had given relaxation by extending deadlines for few compliances to 31st May 2021. It was very much expected that more relaxations are inevitable due to prevailing situation of Covid-19 in the Country.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has given these extensions in exercise of its power under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 which authorises the Board to issue such orders, instructions and directions to subordinate income-tax authorities as it may deem fit for the proper administration of the Act.
