In view of the devastation caused by the flood and natural calamities in number of Indian States, the CBDT is very much likely to extend the due date of 31st July, 2016 for filing of income tax return for Assessment Year 2016-17 by at least two months for districts/cities affected by flood/natural calamities.
The worst hit States for which an extension of due date is quite desirable are as under:
Assam
West Bengal
Bihar
Arunachal Pradesh
Uttarakhand
Madhya Pradesh
Maharashtra
Odisha
Uttar Pradesh
It can be safely assumed that an extension order is in the anvil. In fact, in past also CBDT has used its powers under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 to grant suitable extensions under these circumstances.
CBDT, in view of Bank Strike/Holiday has extended the due date from 31-07-2016 to 05-08-2016 all over India Click Here >>
