Revised and up to date list of acceptable supporting documents for Aadhaar enrolment and update from 3rd July 2025.
UIDAI has revised list of acceptable supporting documents for Aadhaar enrolment and updation. The Unique Identification Authority of India amended the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016 by notifying the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) First Amendment Regulations, 2025 w.e.f. 03/07/2025.
Existing Regulation 27 contains rules for cases requiring omission of Aadhaar number. It provides that where the UIDAI is satisfied that more than one Aadhaar numbers have been issued to the same person, the Aadhaar number assigned the earliest shall be retained and all subsequent Aadhaar numbers omitted.
The amendment provides for cancellation of duplicate Aadhaar based on availability of biometric information. The amended regulations provide that where the UIDAI is satisfied that more than one Aadhaar number has been issued to the same person, the Aadhaar number assigned the earliest and containing the biometric information of the Aadhaar number holder shall be retained and all other Aadhaar number(s) shall be omitted. Provided that if none of the assigned Aadhaar numbers contain biometric information of the Aadhaar number holder, the Aadhaar number assigned the earliest shall be retained and all other Aadhaar number(s) shall be omitted.
Secondly, the list of Acceptable Documents for Aadhaar Enrolment and Updation contained in Schedule II has been revised as under:
Under the Enrolment Type II: Document based Enrolment. The following documents are acceptable for the holders of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, nationals of Nepal and Bhutan and other foreign nationals seeking enrolment as (i) Proof of Identity (POI) document, containing name and photograph and (ii) Proof of Date of Birth (PDB) document, containing name and Date of Birth:
(a) Valid OCI card, along with valid foreign passport, for individual who have stayed in India for 182 days or more in the immediately preceding 12 months.
(b) Valid Long Term Visa (LTV) document, issued to minorities communities of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan (Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians)
(c) Valid visa, along with valid foreign passport issued, to other foreign nationals who have stayed in India for 182 days or more in the immediately preceding 12 months.
(d) Passport of Nepal/Bhutan for nationals of Nepal/Bhutan. In case passport is not available, both of the following documents to be submitted:
(i) Valid Nepalese/ Bhutanese Citizenship Certificate
(ii) Limited validity Photo Identity Certificate issued by Nepalese Mission/ Royal Bhutanese Mission in India for stay of more than 182 days.
Further, under the list of of Documents that may be presented to evidence Proof of Identity, Address, Relationship or Date of Birth for Enrolment for Aadhaar Number of Individual Five Years and above of Age, the following changes have bene made:
Proof of Identity (POI) document, containing name and photograph- Voter Identity Card /e-Voter Identity Card shall be acceptable only if details are displayed online on the website of the Election Commission of India or the Chief Electoral Officer concerned.
