UP GST officials to be extra vigilant during festival seasons to avoid tax evasion on view of increased commercial activities  

Commissioner Commercial Tax (GST) ,Uttar Pradesh in a office advisory/instruction addressed to Officers has issued instructions regarding special tasks during the festival seasons to avoid tax evasion.

The instruction states that the coming fortnight is very important from the point of view of commercial activities. Diwali is approaching and big companies, in order to boost their sales, declare various schemes on their products.

The instruction further states that on this occasion, sale and purchase of motor vehicles, two wheelers, electronic goods, grocery, dry fruits, ready made garments, utensils, gift items and other fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) items increases abcaus.in as compared to any other months. Also, activities of e-shopping companies, courier companies gets increased whereas the provisions for their registration and TDS has become effective from 01.11.2018.

It has been further stated that on the occasion of Diwali, various banks and post offices sells gold and silver coins/bullions, items of fire-works and fire crackers are sold on large scale and storage of dry fruits and grocery is made in cold storage/warehouses. Apart from that whole sellers, big traders and stockists also stock salable goods at their godown / supply points.

According to the said instruction, in view of the large sales on this occasion, special vigilance is required to curb tax evasion. In addition, investigation on priority basis of the firms doing business in fast moving consumer goods who are indulged in tax evasion, is necessary.

Field units have been instruction to strictly enforce the said instructions and provide the progress report of the investigation campaign to the Head Office for review.
