Invitation for submission of Applications for National IP Awards-2020. Last date 07.02.2020

National Intellectual Property (IP) Awards are conferred every year to recognize and reward the top achievers, comprising individuals, institutions, organisations and enterprises, for their IP creations and commercialization.

National IP Awards are intended to encourage innovation and management of intellectual property portfolio that influences the success of a business in different industry segments.

The awa ds will be presented to the awardees in an event to be organized in Delhi by Intellectual Property Office (IPO) in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on 26th April 2020, coinciding with the World IP Day which falls on 26th April.

Categories of National IP Awards 
The following 11 categories are included in the National Intellectual Property Awards 2020 programme:

1. Top Indian Individual for Patents & Commercialization 60:40
2. Top Indian Academic institution for Patents & Commercialization
3. Top R & D institution/organisation for Patents & Commercialization
4. Top Public Limited Company/Private Limited Company for Patents & Commercialization in India:

4(a) : Manufacturing sector
4(b) : Others

5. Top Indian MSME for Patents & Commercialization
6. Top Start-up for IP and Commercialization
7. Top Indian Company /Organization for Designs
8. Top Indian Company for creating Brand in India and Abroad
9. Top Individual/organization for Best facilitation for Registration of GI and Promotion of Registered GI in India
10. Best Police Unit (District / Zone in a commissionarate) for enforcement of IP in India.

 Each award will carry a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, trophy and citation.
 Note: An applicant, who was an awardee of National IP Award during any of the last two years i.e. 2018 and 2019, will not be eligible for the award in that category for this year.

Linking of National IP Awards with WIPO Awards:

Three WIPO Awards which are given annually by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) under the WIPO Awards Program will be linked to the appropriate categories of National IP Awards 2020 and will be conferred on 26th April, 2020, along with National IP Awards on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day, 2020.

Separate application/s for the WIPO Awards is not required, since these awards will be conferred upon the awardees selected in the respective categories of the National IP Awards 2020

Broad parameters for selection :
The awards are not given solely on the basis of number of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) registered/ granted. The utilization of such IPRs as a strategic tool in commerce & industry is also taken into consideration. For the purpose of National IP Awards 2020, the performance in the last 3 calendar years i.e. during 2017, 2018 and 2019 will be taken into consideration.

The following parameters will be considered as relevant:

I. Number of IPRs filed / granted / registered.
II. Growth in IPR portfolio in the last three calendar years.
III. Leveraging of IPRs for achieving commercial goals (manufacturing, licensing, launching of new products / processes associated with granted / registered IPRs , marketing / export etc.)

Eligibility

 An applicant for IP Award should be either Individual or Legal Entity as provided under the respective IP Act.

 Applicant may be Indian Industry (micro, small, medium, large), both private and public sector, as well as firms and societies, registered in India; Indian subsidiary of a transnational corporation; Indian Academic institutions and R&D institutions registered as a legal entity in India; and individuals who have filed IP applications and/or have been granted/registered IPRs by the Indian Intellectual Property Office, during last 3 calendar years for being eligible for applying for National IP Awards.

 An organization applying for award under the category “ Top Indian MSME for Patents & Commercialization”, should be a standalone enterprise and it should state the details of patent applications filed / granted in its own name only. Any details in respect of applications filed/patents granted, if belonging to a subsidiary company or the company under which it is a subsidiary company or a group of companies where the applicant is a part of the said group of companies, shall not be taken into consideration.

 For category III, “Top R&D Institution/Organization for Patents & Commercialization, it is clarified that all R & D Institutions/Organizations, whether in public or private sector, are eligible.

 For all categories of applicants in Patents, the patents filed/granted in India (not necessarily first filing in India) shall be taken as main criteria and international filing will be secondary criteria.

Jury
Awardees will be selected by a jury comprising professionals from diverse fields such as:

i. IP professionals.
ii. Industry Association.
iii. Academia.
iv. R&D professionals.
v. Representative(s) of the DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

The Jury will have the right to co-opt a suitable person as a special invitee in case any specific issue comes up.

How to Apply ?

 All eligible applicants will have to file Part- I of Application Form compulsorily.
 Other parts i.e . Part II to VII of Application Form shall be filled as applicable, depending upon the category in which an application for award is made.
 An Excel-Sheet (in the prescribed Format), pertaining to the respective category, incorporating the detailed information as applicable, shall accompany the Application, failing which, the application for IP award shall not be considered.
 If an applicant wishes to apply for more than one award, a separate application should be filed for each award.
 The Application Form available on the website www.ipindia.nic.in only should be used by the applicants.
 It is clarified that the application (with annexures) is required to be submitted both in electronic and physical format.
 A hard copy of the application along with the applicable Annexures and supporting documents shall be sent at the address as given below, followed by a soft copy of the application and relevant supporting documents in .pdf format accompanied by an Excel sheet (in the prescribed Format) incorporating details as applicable, shall be sent at the email address: ipawards.ipo@gov.in.
 The Application for IP Award, complete in all respects, shall be sent to the following address so as to reach on or before 7th February, 2020, and the same shall also be sent by e-mail to ipawards.ipo@gov.in on or before 7th February, 2020.

 The envelope must be subscribed with “National IP Awards 2020” and e-mail sent to the above mentioned e-mail ID must have “National IP Awards 2020” as the subject line.

 Important Note: If an applicant fails to submit a soft copy of application along-with the details in prescribed excel sheet on or before the last date, the application shall be rejected.

 Applications incomplete in any respect or received after the last date will not be considered.

 All applications will be received and processed at the office of CGPDTM, Mumbai
